Our Staff
Dr. Tanner
DVM
The medical director of Boxford Animal Hospital, Dr. Tanner has practiced medicine since 1991. A native of Norwalk, Connecticut, Dr. Tanner attended the University of Connecticut, where he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Pathobiology in 1985. He went on to attend the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Dr. Tanner completed an Internship in Internal Medicine at South Shore Veterinary Associates in 1991. His professional interests include avian medicine, internal medicine, and soft-tissue surgery.
Dr. Tanner and his wife have two children and a cat named Ollie.
A member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Tanner’s hobbies included skiing, gardening, and boating.
Dr. Hiler
Veterinarian
A Michigan transplant, Dr. Cari Hiler earned her bachelor’s degree from Smith College, graduating cum laude with a biology and chemistry double major, and a dance minor. After working in molecular genetics research at MGH, she attended Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2001 with honors.
Dr. Hiler has been providing compassionate care for dogs and cats on the South Shore since graduation. After running her own practice in Millis for years, she relocated to the north shore with her husband, started a family, and began offering relief veterinary services. Dr. Hiler came to Boxford Animal Hospital in 2022.
Dr. Hiler’s professional interests include feline internal medicine, histology, and ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association. Outside work, Dr. Hiler enjoys spending time with her son, gardening, home improvement projects, cooking, reading, and crafting.
Katie
Technician
Meet Katie, our technician. She has been a technician for about 20 years. Katie strives to make each patient, and their family feel like they are part of our family. Making them feel confident that their pet is getting the best care. In her free time, she loves spending time with her own cats and dogs, watching crime shows, traveling, going to concerts, and hanging out by the ocean.
Emma
Customer Service Representative
Meet Emma, our Customer Service Representative! A graduate of UMass Lowell, Emma’s passion for animals started at a young age with pets such as a gecko, snake, and dog. While working at a dog rescue in college, she developed an interest in animal medicine and canine behavior. She is driven to help all animals and ensure they get the best care possible. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling with her rescue dog, Ramsey, reading mystery books, and spending time with family in Maine.
